A few months ago, I got an email from a guy from this new company that wanted Academy to promote their product. I get these emails all the time and decline about 98% of them.
Usually, it’s a pitch for an additive-filled sports drink, gimmicky energy bar or a paleo snack that’s far from paleo. But when I clicked through the link that Greg sent me, I was genuinely surprised and impressed - there was something going on here.
In reading through truLOCAL’s website and later getting to know the founders Marc Lafluer & Greg Qualie, I saw a product that I could get behind and people who I thought were doing something very innovative and genuine in the food & nutrition space.
As I got to know these guys more, I felt their story was similar to Academy’s. They were passionate about their vision and wanted to improve people’s health in the most impactful way. They work hard and draw on influences that are both inside their industry but also outside, such as tech, media & design.
