One of the goals of this podcast is to do some detective work; peeping into the secret lives of Lions and turning up the stuff they don’t really talk about.
Our workouts are hard. They require focus, patience, perseverance and an illogical tolerance for discomfort. Why do we put ourselves through it? Because there is no way to improve ourselves or any situation without this combination of traits.
John Shoust IS your typical Academy member. You may think this is an underwhelming or even insulting statement, but it’s the exact opposite. John optimizes what this community is all about and embodies the kind of mindset that draws someone to such difficult things like squatting double your bodyweight, running a sub 20 minute 5k or helping a small community in Latin America sustain themselves.
John's a humble, thoughtful person who speaks via his actions. Outside the Academy and his day job as an Engineer, John is the founder of Winds Of Change, an organization that is helping marginalized people learn the skills needed to improve their lives and feed their families.
We cover a lot of ground in this episode, spanning from building windmills for a few hundred dollars to Olympic weightlifting to Jean-Claude Van Damme. Hope you enjoy.
