the team

Each person will register individually and be placed on an evenly matched team of 4, consisting of beginner, intermediate, and advance athletes. Each team will be captained by an experienced member of the community who will organize and guide the team leading up and including the day of competition. This means you sign up as an individual and we will seed you into the appropriate team. In the spirit of building community, half the fun is meeting new people and forming new bonds you may never have a chance prior to.

what to expect

Once you have signed up as an individual and teams are formed, your team captain will reach out and you can begin to prepare for the competition day. There will be 4 events throughout the day that would test not only your fitness but your ability to work as a team. Dress for the weather as there may be some external components of the day. Bring lots of snacks and drink lots of fluids to help you fuel throughout the day. All workouts are designed to challenge your team's ability to work together and discover each other's strengths.

THE WORKOUTS

EVENT 1: #INTHIS2GETHER
50 synchronized wall-ball shots (20lbs/14lbs)
30 synchronized deadlifts 85kg/125lbs
50 synchronized wall-ball shots (20lbs/14lbs)
20 synchronized deadlifts 100kg/155lbs
50 synchronized wall-ball shots (20lbs/14lbs)
10 synchronized deadlifts 120kg/185lbs
Time cap: 12 minutes

Details for EVENT 1

  • *update* each team must declare which bars and wall balls they will be using before the event day each team will have access to 3 wall balls and 3 barbells, ie: 2 male bars/1 female bar or 2 female bars/1 male bar

  • synchronized deadlifts are performed by 2 team mates with each their own individual bars, synchronization will be at the top of the lift at full extension

  • wall balls reps start with the athlete squats below parallel with the wall ball and ends with the ball at or above the target line, synchronization will be with both athletes squatting below parallel

  • all team mates can help load the barbells for the following round, judges and volunteers will not be touching the barbell

  • you may rotate out team mates at any movement at any time

    EVENT 2: CLEAN, JERK, ROW
    Each member has 5 minutes to establish 1 rep max clean and jerk (ground to shoulder to overhead). Each station will have 1x45lbs bar and 1x35lbs bar but only one bar may be loaded and one person on the platform during the lift.

Only one member may score a max lift during each 5 minute segment, the follow members must wait until their following 5 minute segment to score their attempts, other member may lift but any previous attempts will not count toward the team score until their allotted segment.

For example:
0-5 minutes: team member 1
5-10 minutes: team member 2
10-15 minutes: team member 3
15-20 minutes: team member 4

Each team will have a rower at each station and the total calories will count towards their team score. Team members may switch out however they choose.

Total event time will be 20 minutes.

Details for EVENT 2

  • only one person in the lifting area during the attempt for safety, anyone else standing in the lifting area will cause the rep to not count

  • your team may help to load the bar but you can only have one loaded barbell at a time, any athlete can use any bar (female can use 45lb bar if they wish or vice versa)

  • the clean and jerk and total calories rowed are scored as separate events, both weighted the same (essentially 2 events completed at the same time)

  • scoring of clean and jerk: female (successful lift) x1.4 = male (successful lift), total score for the event will be the total weight lifted as a team after the adjustment

  • scoring of the calories rowed: 4.25% per female will be adjusted to your final calories recorded on the rower, ie: 3 females and 1 male team will have a 12.75% adjustment increase to their score

EVENT 3: TILL DEATH DO WE THRUSTER
Two team members from each team AMRAP thrusters 75/55lbs.
But every minute on the minute the entire team completes 4 burpees each then you may continue on thrusters.
Event is scored based on total reps of thrusters.

*Every minute the number of burpees go up by 1 rep
*There will be 2 judges per team
*There is no time cap on this event

Details for EVENT 3

  • each team must declare which bars they will be using before the event day each team will have 3 barbells, ie: 2 male bars or 1 female bar or 1 male and 2 female bars

  • from 0-1min your team may have up to 2 people doing thrusters reps, they don’t have to be synchronized, at 1-2min each team mate must complete 4 burpees, they do'n’t have to be synchronized, only when all team mates complete their burpees can they touch and continue to AMRAP thrusters, team mates may rotate out on the thrusters at anytime

  • if your team can not complete the required burpees for that minute then your team is finished, total number of thrusters will be your team’s score

EVENT 4: GRAND FINALE
Part 1 (0:00-8:00 minute)

10 Kettlebell snatch 16/8kg
20 Push ups
30 Dumbbell box step ups (20in) with 25lbs (at chest)
40 Pull ups 
50 Overhead single arm kettlebell lunges 16/8kg
60 Air squats 
70 Kettlebell swings 16/8kg
80 Single unders
If teams complete part 1 in under 8 mins, they rest until the 8 minute mark then begin part 2. If teams do not complete the work in 8 mins or less they do not move on to part 2.

Part 2 (8:01-16:00 minute)
5 Burpee pull ups
10 Kettlebell snatch 20/12kg
20 Handstand push ups
30 Dumbbell box step ups (20in) with 35lbs (at chest)
40 Pull ups
50 Overhead single arm kettlebell lunges 20/12kg
60 Air squats
70 Kettlebell swings 20/12kg
80 Double unders

If teams complete part 2 in under 16 mins, they rest until the 16 minute mark then begin part 3. If teams do not complete the work in 16 mins or less they do not move on to part 3.

Part 3 (16:00-24:00)

Details for EVENT 4

  • team mates may switch anytime they wish, only one person per movement, you must work down the list

  • there are no modifications or substitutions for the movements in Event 4

  • tie break times will be based on the time completed from the previous part, ie: team completes 5ft HS walk in part 3 with a tie break time of 15:43 from part 2

FAQs

I'M SCARED.  IM NOT EXPERIENCED ENOUGH. AM I EVEN GOOD ENOUGH TO DO THIS?

Every LIONS LEAGUE is open to all levels and skills. And don't worry...because this is a team event, you will be able to contribute to your squad even if you can't do some of the movements. You should sign up! You can do it!

I'M FROM ANOTHER GYM, CAN I STILL SIGN UP?

YES! In the spirit of community, we invite any athlete from any gym to join in on the fun. Just note this isn't your typical CrossFit competition where you choose your team, you must sign up as an individual, then we seed you into a team. Please clearly indicate which gym you belong to and your fitness level so we can properly seed you into the right team.

CAN I SIGN-UP IF I'M NOT SURE I CAN BE THERE ON COMPETITION DAY? WHAT HAPPENS IF I CAN'T MAKE IT?

LIONS LEAGUE is not only about the individual, but the team! If you have any doubts that you will be there on event day, please DO NOT sign-up. Once registration closes and teams are formed, it's very important that there are NO cancellations. This disrupts the teams and is not fair to the other team members, teams & organizers. There are also NO refunds for cancellations and no transferring of entry fees.  So only sign-up if you mean it.
