The Academy Of Lions is obsessed with quality of coaching, technique and building a community of really happy, fit and healthy people. 

As one of the original CrossFit gyms in the city, we have the experience, facility and dedication to make your experience the best it can be. 

CrossFit is intense.  We have a system to help beginners safely get into it.  And we can make experienced CrossFitters even better.

 

 

Olympic Weightlifting

A fun way to get strong and athletic.  We do it as part of our CrossFit program and we also have a competition Team. 

Gymnastics

A huge part of our group classes, we focus on skills and progressions.  We also have specialized classes.

MetCon

Beyond cardio. Metabolic Conditioning is about being fit, flexible, functional, strong with superhuman endurance.

CROSSFIT MEMBERSHIP

This level offers the best rate per class for anyone wanting to workout 3 times a week or more. You can take a class every single day if you like, we won't stop you.  No ridiculous contracts or gimmicks. If you want to get fit fast and have strong goals this is it.

CROSSFIT CLASSPACKS

If you plan to attend less than 3 classes a week, this is the best option for you. Purchase a 10-pack of classes & take up to 6 months to use them.  This is also a great option for anyone who wants to add just a wee bit of CrossFit or Oly Lifting to their routine.

METCON CLASSES

MetCon is the best way to get fit  really fast. It's the most functional and technical form of Cardio & CrossTraining there is. Very similar to CrossFit but without any Barbell, these classes don't require any OnRamping. You can start any time and at any fitness level. Fits any budget.

CROSSFIT MEMBERSHIPS: Why we OnRamp

Member safety and experience is our focus. CrossFit works because it's intense and pushes you past your limits.  In order for us to safely coach you, all new CrossFit members are required to complete an Assessment Screening called "OnRamp."  2 Personal Training OnRamp sessions  are included in the CrossFit Monthly & Yearly memberships along with the CrossFit Drop-In Started ClassPacks.  MetCon does not require OnRamping.

THE COMBINE

The Academy Of Lions prides itself on having the best coaching staff, with the most knowledge, skills and passion. We nurture our community by developing great people for leadership roles. 

We have a system that provides mentorship to young & emerging coaches to help them excel in their professional and athletic practices. 

The COMBINE is our way to build relationships with Coaching & Internship candidates. Opportunities will be given to successful candidates. 

If you are looking to develop your skills, contribute to the community and learn under the one of the best staffs in the country, please check out the criteria below:

ELIGIBILITY

  • Completed CrossFIt Level 1 Certification or registered
  • Completed CPR/First Aid Certification
  • Hold at least 2 other fitness, health or nutrition certifications
  • We strongly value Agatsu Fitness & Varbanov Weightlifting Certifications 
  • We also prioritize anyone with a Post-secondary level accreditation in a related field such as Kinesiology, Exercise Physiology, Health, Fitness, Nutrition, RMT, Health Club Management etc.
  • Candidates should have a lifestyle that will allow them to afford time to train at the Academy on a regular basis, attend social events, coach or assists on sessions. 
  • Be willing to spend at least 10 hours a week at the Academy in exchange for access to our programs, services & mentorship

Alex Varbanov

Coach, Champion

Very few coaches in the sport of Olympic Weightlifting can claim to have actually won an Olympic Medal.  Coach Varbanov took home Bronze in Seoul, 1988. He currently holds a world record that has not come close to being broken to this day.  

Coach, along with his wife Irina and young son Niki, run the Academy Olympic  Lifting program and are passionate about growing this sport in Canada.  

 

Training & Team

We have a competitive weightlifting team that trains together 4-5 days a week.  

We also have classes in Oly Lifting Technique for CrossFitters and anyone looking to add strength & power training to their routine.  


 

Privates

Book a one-on-one or small Group Private sessions with Coach Varbanov.

This is a great way to quickly improve your technique and focus on your specific needs and goal.  Written Programs also available.

MetCon (Metabolic Conditioning) sessions focus on developing outstanding cardio, endurance and technique using functional CrossFit movements involving Bodyweight, Kettlebells, Med Balls & Plyo. All workouts are scaled and modified to meet the needs and fitness levels of the athlete from beginner to advanced.

 

    Mondays: 7:00am,5:30pm NEW CLASS 6:30pm

Tuesdays: 6:00am, 6:30pm, 7:30pm
